Speed Craft Challenge Blog 11 - Sparkle and Shine!! Mixed media tag

Many of you that follow me know how much I love mixed media, especially the Prima Finnabair products! I love her style and the style of her design team, I took inspiration for this from Elena Morgun of the Sunshine Studio blog. If you've not seen her work check it out... seriously, you'll never be disappointed.

I've tried to encapsulate her style for this challenge, and I wanted to prove (to myself more than anything) that mixed media can be done in a quicker time. So here is what I accomplished in 15 minutes:

Can you see all that beautiful sparkle?
15 min tag to enter to challenge

I wasn't entiiiiiirely happy with the tag at this stage so I did go back and do some more to it but this is it after 15 minutes... Didn't think it was too bad for after quarter of an hour - lol

Desk before - got out all the things I could potentially need.

Straight after - as soon as the alarm went I stepped away and then took a picture before going to the  light box :)

Anyway, as I said I wasn't entirely happy so I went away and played some more and this is the finished result:

I applied some extra gesso, which is something I love to do to knock back and then add colour but didn't have time for before. I added some extra paint, some glitter, some buttons and some of those little gem things. :)

I spend one evening every month or so and go die cutting crazy and store them up. So I used two leaves from that stash and I keep my wax paper die cuts so a couple of those got used here. Hope this doesn't go against me for this challenge... :/

So mixed media can be done quickly, I learnt a few things though...:

  • Ensure your glue tip isn't stuck with glue, for quick access.
  • You have clean paint brushes to hand
  • Use super glue or hot glue
  • Make sure your mini misters are already filled
  • Have an idea in mind (I was thinking about the style the night before)
  • Keep all your products close to hand that you want to use
  • Baby wipes out and ready

At one point it was crazy, I had the heat gun in one hand drying and a baby wipe cleaning my stencil in the other!! :)

If I could do this again I think I would have done it on white, I was hoping the gold sparkle paste would pop more on the black, but I think the rest of the design suffered for it. However, I had amazing fun doing this, I love the pressure of just 'doing' rather than umm-ing and ahh-ing all the time over the composition. You just have to run with what you start and it's very refreshing.

I'd like to enter this (15 min tag) over at the Speed Craft Challenge Blog for their Sparkle and Shine Challenge. :) Hope this counts for it!!

Hope you're all having a great start to the week

  2. Hi Georgie, our rules allow you to gather your supplies before you start the clock, no matter what they are. Die cuts take up too much time out of your 15 minutes so you are allowed to do them before. This allows you more time for your paints etc, hope that clarifies things for you.

Stunning Tag, love what you have created in the 15 minutes full of sparkle and shine!

Thank you for joining in with our Challenge and we hope to see you play again soon.
