The theme is Bees, Bugs and Butterflies, and straight away I knew that I wanted to incorporate the Tim Holtz Layered Bee. I have had my eye on this beautiful little gem for ages... so what a great excuse to make a crafty purchase!!
I kept coming up with many designs for a mixed media piece thinking along the lines of a flowery shabby chic garden. I was messing around with 'bee' quotes for ages too, but nothing was coming together.
Then inspiration sprang out of the blue (pure lightbulb moment) and I got the idea for an old, antique, mysterious style book cover piece when suddenly the simplest title came to mind and so from here 'The Keeper' was born. Completely away from all of my original intentions for this piece.
I used a chicken wire stencil from Crafters Workshop, hexagon die cut pieces to create a honeycomb effect and some gears using the Cheery Lynn die.
Everything got a coat of PaperArtsy Treasure Gold in White Fire and Rose Quartz. Then the fun part with ageing and painting started. Lots of light layers of PaperArtsy chalk paint in French Roast. Glossy accents on the letters and wings.
I won't go into anymore detail as I could go on forever...! But I do hope you like and thanks for stopping by. If you have any questions please don't hesitate to ask :) xx
