New Beginnings - My Petri-Dish Baby

I've been wanting to scrap one particular photo for a very long time but wasn't really sure how to do it. Then I saw a challenge on the Country View Crafts blog site and it kind of gave me the jump start I needed.

The theme was 'New Beginnings' and it just felt right, especially as there is a lot of emotion tied up in this page.

The first photo is my son as a two day old embryo, not sure which one, but still pretty neat! (Can't wait to show him when he is older.) The second photo he is nine hours old and very new to the world. :)

I know this page is pretty feminine for a baby boy, but it was also about my journey as much as his start in life, and again I was going for what felt right when piecing it together. I wanted to capture a light and airy feel to express what was as much a feeling of relief that each step was a positive one and getting closer and closer to my dream of being a mother.

I used papers from various collections, Blank Canvas by First Edition, J'adore by First Edition, Art Journal by Prima and Silent Night by First Edition. All peachy light tones and just added some hints of light greens.

The flowers were Prima from the Delight collection. I used jute twine for extra texture and floaty feel under the flowers and the Cheery Lynn flourish die, which I love. I got it this week and I can see myself using it a lot! I used a Prima butterfly and an assortment of die-cut pieces by Kaisercraft. One of which (couldn't believe my luck) said 'New Beginnings', so this page was just meant to be!

There is a tag in on top of one of the doilies with the saying 'Good things come to those who... make it happen'. This reflects our initial struggle and the odds of going up against the postcode lottery in our area and the fact that we really had to push for it. I wanted to add more words to the page, but felt that they would look too much. So the tag has some personal notes on the back for my son when he is older.

So there it is, my sons beginning in life and mine as a mum. I know this has been more our story rather than a craft post but I don't think this page could have ever have been anything else.

xxxxxx

And if anyone going through this battle sees this and would love some hope to cling to (as I know I did) our treatment worked first time - it really can happen xx

I'd like to enter this in the Country View Crafts - New Beginnings Challenge (and thanks for the inspiration) and the Pan Pastel UK - Pretty Shabby Chic Challenge
Would also like to enter in the

  3. very very beautiful and touching. it doesnt matter about feminine or masculine for a baby and its mum... its simply gorgeously vintage shabby chic.. its soft and gentle and beautiful. i am not a very good scrapbooker as i have only just started with 4 pages under my belt as i have mostly done altered art till now, but this is the kind of page i aspire to.

    1. Thank you that is so kind and so very lovely to hear, as especially - like you, I'm new to this too. This is my fifth page, but I've watched (repeatedly) vids from Gabrielle Pollacco and Ingvild Bolme. I expect you already have seen their designs (so stunning!!) but if not, definitely recommend them for inspiration.

  7. Absolutely stunning - delicate, moving and beautiful. And who ever said a boy couldn't have gentle, pretty colours around him?! (The Victorians thought gentle blue was for girls and bold vivid reds and pinks were more suited to boys... so it's not a given!) What a wonderful thing to be able to share with your son when he's older.

  8. Oh, sad - can't follow as not a Google+ person (and I'm holding out against Google's attempt to corral us all). Any chance of a Blogger Follower gadget (they hide it in the More Options tab if you try to add a widget), or Follow By Email? Would love to keep up with your lovely work...

  11. I saw your amazing page on Pinterest in the United States and just had to come over to read the rest of your story. What a precious page of your beautiful son--I love the soft colors and by keeping the embellishments down, you have drawn focus to the wonderful story and beautiful photo. Some day, your son can read about how much he has been loved from the very beginning, but I can just tell that you are showing him that love every single second. I'm glad that I came across this layout and now will look at your blog to see more of your art!
