Tim Holtz 12 Tags of 2014 - November

Well, here is my first attempt at a Tim Holtz tag. How he did his can be found here on his blog.

...Actually quite scary to attempt this, it's like following in the footsteps of a giant!!

I didn't have the Layered Leaf but I do have that beautiful Layered Bee die, so to save my bank account I decided to give it a go with this instead.

The first problem was the logistics of actually fitting it on the tag, if I wanted to successfully try this technique, and I actually quite like the tag this way around in a landscape fashion, completely going against the Tim Holtz norm, but then isn't that the point of creativity?! I am finding (and coming to terms with the fact) that I am not one of those people who can follow a recipe to the letter anyway, so this tag was probably never destined to look like his - just as my meals never come out looking like they do in the book :)

The second problem was the drop shadow, I just couldn't  get it to work with the bee folder, but I will keep trying this technique in other embossing adventures.

(added colour to the letters to tie in with the tag)

I used 'scraps' of Remnant Rubs - Elements in amongst the background and as I don't have any spray stains (yet) I improvised a little with the Walnut Stain Distress Ink pad. I rubbed the ink pad on the craft mat as normal, let the droplets separate and settle, put the heat tool over for a little while and then very lightly press parts of the tag into the ink and you get some concentrated 'droplets' of ink. I did the same with Tarnished Brass Distress Paint.

I am quite pleased with my first attempt given the limited supplies I have, but I managed to use all Tim Holtz / Ranger products except for the ribbon, which was from my stash.

See you soon xx

  1. Wow Georgie, you did an amazing job with the resources you had to hand - this is very impressive indeed, the layered bee looks amazing and you improvised so well with the stain too. I absolutely love your take on Tim's tag and here's to many more! Hugs, Anne xx

  3. Georgie,
Congrats on your Guest Designer spot! You did a fabulous job! And this tag is wonderful! You have done a great job improvising, but I think that is what creativity is all about. Not copying something to the letter. As artists, I think designers want to inspire, not to be copied! I am going to give this one a go for the first time, too (hopefully), but will be improvising as well! Good luck to you with your entries! I'm a new big fan of yours! Thanks for giving my Halloween display a visit! It took over an hour just to upload all the pics, so I'm happy when people visit and leave such lovely comments! It makes it all worthwhile! Hugs!
