Anything But Cute - Vintage Garden - Challenge #1

Hellloooooo!

Wow, the first challenge is kicking off at Anything But Cute and it's a great one to start us on our road to some serious creative thinking...

VINTAGE GARDEN

What do you think of when you hear the word Garden? Is it flowers, birds, butterflies, dragonflies, bees, lattice, vines, fences? Whatever garden vision you have, we want to see it. But make sure it's in a vintage style.

Please come and play along, we'd love to see your entries and we welcome every ability.

For my inspiration piece this month I decided to do a 3D canvas:

I pictured an old vintage secret garden when hearing this challenge and felt so inspired to capture the magic of those words.

The fine crackle on the bridge was pure fluke but boy was I happy with how it turned out! I sprayed Lindy's first and then went over in a light coat of gesso.

I used some amazingly bright colours from Lindy's (sadly I forget which ones they were) but I wanted the garden to have a sparkle and a brightness to it to show that even though it is vintage, the magic still remained - can you tell I get lost in a fairytale when I create :)

My go-to texture maker ingredients include:
  • Dry Wall Tape
  • Die Cuts (intricate works best for catching paint and other bits)
  • Glass Beads from Galleria
  • Fibres (something floristy)
  • Texture Paste
  • Crackle Paint (Used through a brick stencil this time)

After inking, spring etc. I love to hit back the areas with gesso, even the really bright areas as it tones it down and keeps the piece more harmonious.

And here's how it started before all the messy fun began, although getting to this stage was quite messy. I applied all the resin bits first and then gesso'd the hell out of it :) pure, blank, white canvas, then the flowers were added in and around to fill the space. I took a pic at this stage because I was so tempted to leave it, but my sprays were just itching to be played with!!

Hope you enjoyed today's post, please go and check out this amazing new challenge blog for mixed media and the pieces from the rest of the DT, they are truly amazing!

Hugs
Georgie xx
